Premier Medical Group Celebrates 25th Year in Service

Premier Medical Group observes a major milestone in 2020 – the 25th anniversary of opening its doors. “While rising to meet the daily challenges of COVID-19 is our top priority right now, we don’t want to lose sight of this major accomplishment in Premier’s history. Our entire staff has stepped up to address this rampant pandemic, and it is fitting that we celebrate them. Ironically, it is this type of effort that has brought us this far, and the kind that will take us into the future,” says Dr. Mike Carrigan, Chief Administrator of the group.
Equally important, the multispecialty medical practice wants to keep its eye on the ball – its mission has not changed since January of 1995. The collective resources of 22 physicians back then created better access for patients to quality health care with primary care at the core. A quarter of a century later, 38 board-certified physicians maintain the course, building lasting relationships with patients to oversee their total health for a lifetime.
Carrigan also explains, “Independent medical practices are on the decline in our country. The complexity, scale and resources needed to meet the challenges of healthcare evolution often take too much physician attention, when what they really want to do is care for patients. They do this by joining larger groups or systems that handle the administrative and business functions. The beauty of Premier’s local ownership is that our physician shareholders still make decisions affecting their own patients, in their own community, while employing a local administrative team to take care of the business end of running a large group practice.”
The nucleus of the group always has been Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Occupational Medicine. Travel Medicine joined the lineup of specialties in 2003. The conveniences of on-site Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Clinical Research and seven-days a week Walk-In Clinics complete the services found at 490 Dunlop Lane.
Nurse practitioners, physician assistants and 300 employees help keep Premier open 364 days a year. In 2019, the entire PMG team provided for 253,262 patient encounters.
“Our community’s size and continued growth dictates the essential needs that we are honored to have offered all these years. We are dedicated to the tens of thousands of patients who rely on us, and we look forward to continuing these relationships,” Carrigan says.
