FDA Recalls Valsartan. What you should know.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of several medicines containing the active ingredient valsartan – used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. The recall is due to an impurity that is classified as a probable human carcinogen (a substance that could cause cancer).
Not all medications containing valsartan are being recalled, and the FDA’s review of the medication is ongoing.
Because valsartan is used in medicines to treat serious medical conditions, patients are encouraged to continue to take their medication until they have a replacement product.
